NEET 2018 (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) is a national-level medical entrance test which is conducted for admission to MBBS and BDS courses conducted across various government and private medical colleges in the country.

NEET Eligibility requires candidates who have cleared class 12th minimum qualifying marks to appear for the exam. It will be conducted in two phases of which, the first phase will be an MCQ-based exam and the students who qualify this, will appear for a written examination.

The counselling for NEET 2018 will be conducted in all the states and seats will be allotted to students on the basis of NEET Reservation which is defined by MHRD (Ministry of Human Resource Development) on behalf of Government of India.

  • The reservation scheme is divided into three broad categories namely AIQ (All India Quota), State Quota and Management.

  • AIIMS, JIPMER & J & K will not be accepting the NEET 2018 score for counselling.
  • AFMC (Armed Forces Medical College) which is one of the prestigious medical colleges has no reservation for Physically Handicapped category candidates.
  • Candidates who clear NEET 2018 entrance exam need to appear for AFMC screening, thereafter counselling will be done for admission to AFMC.
  • No state quota or AIQ reservation rules are applied for admission to AFMC, Pune.  

What is All India Quota?

NEET All India Quota accounts for 15{e9882222d34a627c01256861a8ec0603d0c81cc8f48678048d03a7472f7f9be6} of the total seats available at All India level. This lets students from any state to take admission into any of their preferred colleges in any other state of the country.

All India Quota in Deemed universities is managed through NEET 2018 counselling conducted by DGHS. Students will be invited for counselling according to the all India merit list.

Candidates will not be allotted seats in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana & Jammu & Kashmir under this quota. Institutes like AIIMS and JIPMER are allowed to conduct independent counselling.

What is State Quota?

State quota is applicable to 85{e9882222d34a627c01256861a8ec0603d0c81cc8f48678048d03a7472f7f9be6} of seats available at the state level, and separate counselling will be conducted in each state. This time a centralised counselling will be conducted at the state level, so that no token money can be taken from the students for admission to any government or private college in any state. The seats in the state quota will be filled through state level counselling and the state merit list will be used for the counselling process.

Students need to fill details of the state code in the NEET application form 2018, so that they are eligible for the home state quota. A copy of the state domicile must therefore be uploaded at the time of NEET application form 2018.

Admission under the state quota of NEET 2018 reservation rules will be as per the state legislation rules. The eligibility and reservation policies will also be introduced by the state authorities and these can be checked online on the official state counselling website. This will be unique for each home state.

The reservation policy is as follows for private medical colleges/ universities/ institutions and AFMC:

    • In case a candidate wishes to get his/ her admission done to any of the MBBS/BDS college the norms defined by state or UT will be followed.
  • Admission to Armed forces medical college (AFMC), Pune, will be based on the rules defined by Directorate General of Armed Forces Medical Services, Ministry of Defence and Government of India.

Reservation for Physically Handicapped

Only 3{e9882222d34a627c01256861a8ec0603d0c81cc8f48678048d03a7472f7f9be6} seats at an All-India level are reserved for candidates suffering from any physical disability. The reservation of seats for this category is as follows:

  • Candidates who have any kind of loco-motor disability and have the percentage disability falling between 50 to 70{e9882222d34a627c01256861a8ec0603d0c81cc8f48678048d03a7472f7f9be6} can get a seat allotted under the scheme.
  • If the seats reserved for loco-motor disability candidates remain unfulfilled, then these will be transferred to candidates with disability of 40 to 50{e9882222d34a627c01256861a8ec0603d0c81cc8f48678048d03a7472f7f9be6}.
  • A certificate issued by a government body indicating the level of disability has to be produced before the assessment board.  
  • The assessment boards designated as per NEET 2018 reservation rules are as follows:
  1. Vardhman Mahavir Medical College and Safdarjung Hospital – New Delhi
  2. All India Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation – Mumbai
  3. Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education & Research – Kolkata
  4. Madras Medical College – Chennai

In every state there will be reservation according to the state government reservation policies.

AFMC Reservation Policy

Although, NEET 2018 score will be considered by AFMC but the admission will be done only for the candidates who have filled AFMC application form 2018 separately. It has to be filled in the online mode by accessing the official AFMC website. The eligibility criteria defined by AFMC, Pune can be checked on their official website, as their norms are different in some cases.

Some of the important points regarding AFMC reservation are mentioned below:

  • It must be noted carefully that students who clear NEET and wish to take admission in AFMC need to clear the screening conducted by AFMC.
  • The screening dates will fall tentatively in the month of July 2018.
  • There will be 2 separate lists published of which, list 1 will comprise the name of candidates who have been shortlisted for counselling and list 2 is the waiting list.
  • Once students of list 1 are done with the counselling and seat allotment process, then only students will be invited from list 2.
  • As per AFMC norms, there are 105 seats for male candidates and 25 seats for female candidates.
  • There are 10 seats reserved for SC/ST out of the 130 seat matrix designed by AFMC.  There is no reservation defined for PH category by AFMC.
  • Candidates from the state of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Jammu & Kashmir are eligible for admission to AFMC Pune.
