Engineering is one of the most sought after career options in India and choosing a good college to pursue technical education right after your higher secondary school can be a daunting task. Not only students but it is a dream for parents too, to help their children pursue their BTech studies from leading tech institutes of the country. To help candidates through this phase, we list sown some good engineering colleges and their admission process, you could consider to pursue your engineering studies from. Please note that for most of the colleges in India require candidates to appear for a national/state/private level engineering entrance exam for admissions to its BE/BTech programme.

  1. Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs)

 

The IITs are the cream of the lot.These institutes are ranked amongst the best technological institutions in the world andare also considered a trend-setter in the area of education and research in the field of science, technology, and engineering.

Admissions to the UG programmes of engineering will be made through JEE-Advanced. However before this, candidates will be required to appear for JEE Mains. Only the top 2.4 lakh candidates who qualify JEE Main will be able to appear for JEE Advanced. Admissions to NRI candidates will be made through Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) scheme.

 

Admission to all the PG programmes of engineering will be made on the basis of valid normalized GATE marks only. All the sponsored candidates may be admitted through an Interview/Written Test.

 

  1. National Institutes of Technology (NITs)

 

The National Institutes of Technology (NITs) are institutes of national importance in higher technological education located at different locations in India. The status of all the NITs is autonomous and that allows them to set up their own program of study.

Admission to the UG programmes of engineering is competitive and will be made through JEE Mains exam through the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) to the condition that students must have obtained 75% marks (65% for SC/ST candidates) in 10+2 or be in the top 20 percentile in 10+2 conducted by the respective Boards.

 

Admissions are open for Foreign Nationals/Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs)/Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) under Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) Scheme.

 

Admission to PG programmes of engineering are commonly based on GATE score and the admissions are through the Centralized Counseling. The programs require competitive scores in both GATE and an All India Entrance Exam conducted by the admitting department while making admissions.

 

  1. Birla Institute of Technology and Science Pilani (BITS Pilani)

Birla Institute of Technology and Science Pilani is one of the best private engineering institutes in India. BITS Pilani offers integrated first-degree programmes in Engineering, Sciences, Technology, Pharmacy, Management and Humanities.

Admission Process

Admissions to integrated first-degree programmes of BITS Pilani is done on the basis of BITSAT, a computer based online test conducted by BITS, Pilani. The exam is a gateway for admissions to above mentioned programmes offered at all the campuses of BITS including Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad.

  1. Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra

Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra (BIT, Mesra) is a deemed university established in 1955 by Mr BM Birla. The institute is currently one of the leading engineering institutes in India.

Admissions to the UG programme of engineering will be made through JEE Main through the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB)/ JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority). On the other hand, admissions for Non-resident Indian (NRI)/Person of Indian origin (PIO)/Self Financing Foreign Student (SFFS) will be based on the marks obtained by the candidates in Class 12/ equivalent qualifying examination. Admissions to Postgraduate programmes of engineering is commonly based on the academic record and scores in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). The merit list will be prepared on the basis of 80% weightage to GATE Score and 20% weightage to Class 10, 10+2 and graduation/Post graduation marks.

 

For Non-GATE candidates: The admission will be based on academic record and entrance test. The merit list will be prepared on the basis of 80% weightage to the marks/score obtained in the entrance test and 20% weightage to Class 10, 10+2 and graduation/Post graduation marks.
  1. College of Engineering, Pune (COEP)

College of engineering, Pune also known as COEPis considered as one of the oldest engineering colleges in Asia. As of today, COEP offers nine UG and twenty-three PG programmes and has more than 3200 students enrolled in its various courses.

Admissions to the BTech program is strictly based on the merit basis as per the performance of the candidates in Maharashtra Health and Technical Common Entrance Test (MHT-CET) examination. For admission to MTech courses, the candidates must have appeared for GATE exam and have qualified with a good score, the candidates also have to appear for an Interview conducted by the college.
  1. Delhi Technological University (DTU)

Delhi Technological University (DTU) was previously known as Delhi College of Engineering located in New Delhi, India is also considered as Delhi’s first engineering college. DTU offers B.Tech, M.Tech, PhD and MBA courses.

Admission to the BTech program will be made only through centralized counselling. It will be done by four pioneering technical universities/ institutes of Govt. of NCT of Delhi, namely DTU, IGDTUW, IIIT-D and NSIT, will be conducted through Joint Admission Counselling (JAC Delhi).

Admissions for Foreign Nationals/Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs)/Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) will be done through Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) Scheme.

 

For admission to M.Tech. courses, the candidates must have appeared for GATE exam and have qualified with a good score, Shortlisted candidates will be called for counselling process of DTU. The candidates also have to appear for an Interview conducted by the college.

 

  1. BMS College of Engineering, Bengaluru (BMSCE)

BMS College of Engineering, Bengaluru, also abbreviated as BMSCE, has the unique distinction of being the first private engineering college established in the country. The college offers 13 undergraduate, 15 postgraduate programmes and 14 PhD degree programmes both in conventional and emerging areas in Engineering and Technology. The Institute is also approved as QIP centre in Engineering and Technology, AICTE.

Admissions to the BTech programmes are done on the basis of COMEDK UGET/KCET scores. The candidate needs to appear for either of the exams in order to seek admission in BMS College of engineering. Admissions to the MTech. courses will be done through counselling based on the marks obtained in GATE exam/ Karnataka PGCET conducted by the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA).
  1. Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT)

Vellore Institute of Technology famously known as VIT is fast gaining prominence as an Institution of International repute. The institute is extremely popular amongst candidates wishing to pursue engineering in the Southern region of India. Apart from Vellore campus, the institute also has the campuses in Andhra Pradesh, Chennai and Bhopal.

Admissions to the BTech programmes will be made only on the basis of marks secured in VITEEE conducted by the VIT itself. The candidates who have not appeared for the VITEEE are not eligible for admission. Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of their entrance examination rank and counselling conducted later.

 

Admissions to MTech Programmes is entirely based on VIT Masters Entrance Examination (VITMEE) conducted by VIT in major cities across India. Selection will be done via counselling based on the rank secured in the entrance exam. Preference will be given to candidates with a valid GATE score.
