Medical scribes in training have to learn a lot before they are able to go out into the workplace. There are many medical terms to learn, HIPAA laws to memorize, and tests to study for. As a result, some can have trouble maintaining their motivation levels. If ever you find yourself needing a pick-me-up, here are some ways to find a quick motivational boost.
Visualize Working As a Medical Scribe
When you need to find your inner strength in order to keep moving forward, it can be effective for you to use visualization as a tool. Someone running a marathon might close their eyes and imagine themselves crossing the finish line, then guzzling an ice-cold bottle of water. Someone shoveling snow in the middle of a blizzard might visualize themselves in front of a roaring fire, dressed in flannel pajamas while sipping a mug of hot cocoa. When completing a scribe program, you are going to periodically think of how good it will feel to graduate. You will physically be able to create a scene in your head where you are walking across the stage to be handed your certificate while your family beams with pride. If this image doesn’t help you to get motivated, then little else will.
Look Back At What You’ve Already Done
As the saying goes, the glass is always half full. You might just be a few weeks into your scribe program, but if you have already started then it simply makes more sense to continue trudging ahead. Yes, you may still have a long way to go, but you have to consider the work already put into your training. Perhaps you should even consider what it took for you to take the plunge and enroll in a program in the first place. Maybe you can think about how you changed your work schedule or made sacrifices in your personal life to get where you are today. Considering how far you have come will also help to motivate you.
Do Something You Enjoy
Other times, motivation can simply come from freedom. Being able to get up and take a break from it all can be truly eye-opening. Number one, you have a lot of choices and freedoms in life that not everyone else is going to get. Clear your mind for a little while and you can get back to what is really important. So, play a game of basketball, go to the movies, or just sit around and laugh with family and friends. When everything gets quiet again, you will feel more motivated to continue with your training than ever before.
Everyone is allowed to feel sad, exhausted, or even defeated for a moment. The critical part is getting back up and working toward your goals harder than ever. Life is a constant battle, so find the motivation you need to double down on your efforts.
